A woman cooking healthy foods

In my previous post, I have covered a lot of processed and junk foods. I gave enough reasons why you shouldn’t have them always. Without wasting time, let me go straight to the healthy alternatives for these unhealthy foods.

Green smoothies

I put this first because it has helped me personally. I am a huge fan of green smoothies. They are extremely nutrient-dense, a glass of green smoothies can give you almost every nutrient your body needs.

They also keep you feeling full for a long time. This eliminates the need for junks and noodles. I usually have green smoothies on an empty stomach almost every morning.

Due to this, I can stay without feeling hungry until noon. Sometimes I reach 2 PM before my stomach signals me that it needs something. These green vegetables are dense in fibers.

This nutrient keeps you feeling full for a long time. It also increases the population of good bacteria in your gut. Green smoothies are not expensive to make. All you need is a handful of any green vegetable of your choice.

You can add any fruit of your choice, herbs like ginger and turmeric and blend. Blend it well until it becomes very smooth. Then you drink this. You are good to go for at least 8 hours. It also helps curbs cravings.

Couscous

This food is healthy. Unlike noodles, it is loaded with fiber and little of other vital nutrients that your body needs. It helps with weight loss. It gives you a feeling of fullness which eliminates the need for junks.

It does not contain fat or sugar. It is rich in selenium, it reduces your risks for diabetes and supports a healthy heart.

I would advise you to replace your noodles with couscous.

Fruits

You can be hungry and time will not be on your side sometimes. You might not even be at home to prepare food. Instead of reaching out to noodles, pizzas, or other small chops, why not try fruits?

I remember when I was in Zaria, I used fruits at times to quench my hunger. Even though there were a bit expensive, I knew the money I spent buying fruit was an investment in my health.

I had to work on my mindset. This helped me see good health as a treasure to purchase through eating good foods. One thing you should know is that healthy foods are expensive.

If it is not expensive, it is not healthy. Also, real and healthy foods need you to sacrifice a bit of your time in preparation. Good health is all about sacrifice.

One thing you should know is that fruits won’t keep hunger away for a long time. But they can relieve hunger for a short while. You can have up to 45 minutes before the next sign of hunger comes again.

Some of the fruits that can help keep hunger at bay for a while are:

  • Bananas,
  • Pineapples,
  • Apples,
  • Mangoes,
  • Garden eggs,
  • Papaya (pawpaw),
  • Groundnut (though not a fruit, it helps greatly),
  • Cucumbers,
  • Carrots,

You can also try other fruits that work for you. These are the ones that I have used and I am so sure of them.

Real foods

Anything that is worthwhile in this life needs a sacrifice of time. Your health is more important than anything you can think of in this life. You can’t run around your business and make money in a sick body.

You have to create time to make real and healthy foods. You don’t have to spend the whole day in the kitchen. You can make good and nutritious meals in less than an hour.

A famous quote says the “The path to health passes through the kitchen and not through the pharmacy”. Your overall health depends on your nutrition and lifestyle.

Even if you are so busy, you can still find time to cook. You shouldn’t joke with nutrition especially if you have little children. Now is the best time to build up their immune system through good foods. This will also help them healthily as adults.

You can dedicate your weekends to cook plenty of foods of different types and save them in your freezer. In this way, you can be sure of taking healthy meals.

If you don’t have this and you are in need of real foods, there are quick fixes you can make in your kitchen in less than 30 minutes. Some examples are:

  • Yam and sauce
  • Sweet potatoes and sauce
  • Boiled plantain, eggs, and sauce
  • Fruit salad
  • White rice and onion sauce
  • You can also try your own experiment with natural foods

Remember that nutrition is the key to good health. Invest in your health by eating healthy foods. Invest in your health by making time out to cook.

Coming to the area of finance, you can still eat healthy even if you are on a low budget. I have written on green smoothies as a way to beat nutritional deficiencies.

They are other ways you can plan your budget to ensure that you eat good and healthy foods.
