This post on healthy foods is a continuation of the previous post on healthy eating.
In our previous post on why people eat healthily but don’t see results, I mentioned something about our present generation being food illiterate.
This means man has lost the ability or instinct to know what real foods are. Man can no longer intuitively discern between living foods and dead foods.
Dead foods are everywhere, they are advertised on the TV, internet, and just everywhere. Even in schools, tell children to mention foods and you will start hearing all those highly processed and dead foods which are packed and stored on the shelves for months.
And they grow up with the notion that these dead foods are healthy. No wonder we have a high rate of childhood diseases now. Diseases that were only for aged people in the past, little children now have them.
This includes childhood obesity, childhood cancer, childhood diabetes, etc.
With this knowledge of what real and living foods are, you should be able to change your diet and your life for the better.
Why Choose Healthy Foods?
You may have heard this popular quote, “you are what you eat”. What you eat matters a lot in both the prevention and treatment or management of diseases.
Your foods are the building blocks that your body uses in repair, healing, and maintenance. If you use junk and unhealthy materials, that is how your body will be.
But if you use healthy and quality materials, that will be the state of your health and body. You will enjoy robust health all year round.
If you are perfectly healthy due to a good and healthy diet, you won’t be susceptible to diseases and infections. You can be fighting disease and you won’t even know it (have symptoms) because your immune system is up to the task.
And that’s how it’s supposed to be. When sickness knocks you down, it simply means your immune system is weak.
Characteristics of Healthy Foods
1. They are living
Real and healthy foods are living foods. They have life in them and that is why they get spoilt easily. Examples are fruits, vegetables, and most crops.
They have a short lifespan.
And the shorter the lifespan of your foods, the longer your own lifespan, while the longer the lifespan of your food, the shorter your own lifespan.
Make sure fresh fruits and vegetables (organic and non-GMO) make up a huge part of your diet. Avoid genetically modified foods that don’t spoil or rust, e.g. apples.
Dead foods are foods that can stay in a pack or on a shelf for months and even years without showing any sign of spoilage.
These foods have lots of deadly chemicals added to stop that process, hence they are dangerous to your health when ingested. They have also gone through a lot of processes that have depleted most of the nutrients in them, this makes them junk food.
2. They are easy to digest
Real and healthy foods are easy to digest. Since they are made by nature, the body understands the food and how to handle them.
They don’t put a burden on the body when you eat them. How you know your body is having a difficult time digesting is when you feel tired, sleepy, headache, heartburn, and other symptoms immediately after eating a particular meal.
Fruits, veggies, and most plant foods, and moderate amounts of animal proteins are easier to digest than some chemical additives added to processed foods and commercially made foods and drinks.
3. Have no adverse side effects
If you eat only natural and healthy foods, you won’t have any symptoms or health challenges which are just adverse side effects of some of the things we put into our bodies through our mouths.
Most of these processed and commercially made foods we eat cause problems in the body which manifest as migraines, pains, headaches, bloated stomach, indigestion, tumors/cancer, etc.
Some of the foods that cause these are refined sugar, noodles, white flour and foods made from it, GMO crops and animals, etc.
4. They are as nature made it
Healthy, real, and living foods are whole. No part has been removed and discarded as we have in white flour.
Every part of the plant and all the nutrients and phytochemicals work in synergy to heal, repair, or maintain the body.
This is why we encourage the regular consumption of whole-plant foods. Avoid highly refined and processed foods, they have lost most of their nutrients and healing compounds.
5. Real foods come from the earth and not the lab
We are in the age of lab-made foods like lab-made meat, lab-made milk, and other synthetic foods that are being released to the public without proper labeling.
These will produce adverse side effects in the long run because your body is not designed to handle synthetic things. It does not even recognize them or know how to digest them.
The body will keep storing them in a location until it gets to its toxic limit and signs and symptoms of toxicity start showing.
Then people who still don’t know what’s happening will take more drugs to worsen the situation and force the body to take in more toxins beyond what it can handle.
And the end result of this is death, despite the drugs they were taking. Prevention is better than cure. Avoid all forms of synthetic foods and eat only those produced by the Earth.
6. They have no dietary hazards
Some people cook healthy plant foods but add synthetic seasonings, chemical additives, or even preservatives to their foods or juices.
This has defeated the aim of eating healthy because these dietary hazards will go into your body and cause problems, and later you will say that you do eat healthily.
I have corrected a lot of people who add color, artificial sweeteners, and other chemicals to the zobo drinks they make for their own personal consumption.
Sometimes, I collect the pack of the chemical and read out each ingredient to them and tell them what it does in the body and they are amazed.
If you want to prepare healthy foods, please stick to that and avoid adding anything unnatural. They are wonderful natural spices you can use to increase the flavor and aroma of your foods.

7. They are highly nutritious and of high quality
Whole plant foods that have not gone through any form of processing and no form of chemical have been added to them are highly nutritious.
Apart from the live enzymes, minerals, and vitamins they contain, they also contain powerful phytochemicals that help in healing and repairing the body.
8. The human body can handle them without stress
One way to know if your body likes a particular food is to watch how you feel or act after that eating that food.
Foods that make you bloated, tired, angry, cause diarrhea, headache, increase thirst, or cause rash are not good for you.
It is a sign that your body is having a hard time digesting or handling them.
And most of these foods are processed foods like noodles, milk, and other commercially produced foods that are not good for your health.
9. They increase lifespan
Healthy foods have a short lifespan because their nutrients and contents are living and you have to take them within a time range to fully benefit from their live nutrients and phytochemicals.
Meanwhile, packed and processed foods that can stay in boxes or shelves for months without spoiling are dead foods. Their living constituents have been removed during the processing stage.
Then dangerous chemicals and additives were added to improve the taste, color, aroma, and even increase the shelf-life.
So patronizing and consuming these dead foods on a regular basis means that you are taking in zero nutrients and harmful chemicals.
And before you know it, your body will start giving warning signs through symptoms.
Go for foods with shorter shelf life because they elongate yours while foods with longer shelf life shorten yours.
10. They reproduce
Real, healthy, and living foods reproduce. And they reproduce in the natural way that nature made them reproduce.
This is one of the reasons GMO crops and animals are not healthy. They don’t have the life in them to give life. The life-giving property of the plant which is in the seeds has been tampered with.
So anyone eating seedless crops that are supposed to have seeds in the first place is putting their health in danger.
In the Holy Bible, when God made man in Genesis, the first instruction he gave man was concerning his food and he mentioned that his foods should contain seeds.
“And God said; behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you, it shall be for meat”
Genesis 1:29 KJV (Emphasis are mine)

Don’t make the mistake of replacing healthy foods with dead ones, many have done that and it cost them their lives while others are still battling for theirs.
